The book cover: This original acrylic painting represents Ruth Draper's interpretation of the four corners of Cookstown, circa 1910. As her source of information, Ruth studied a historical photo which was part of the Cookstown Tweedsmuir Scrapbook Collection.

Foreword

The village of Cookstown, with a population of about 1,400, is situated at latitude 44 degrees north of the equator and longitude 79 degrees west of the Prime Meridian. It is just a tiny part of the world as we know it. However, to many, Cookstown has meant the world.

In February 2008, a group of "Cookstown Oldies" began meeting and sharing stories, photos, and laughter-clearly identifying that there is much to be said and heard about Cookstown. Stories came to light: humorous stories, sad stories, astonishing and almost unbelievable stories, as well as poignant testimonials.

These are the stories - the memories - that can be found in Memories of Cookstown, a book that is intended to be an enjoyable read both for those who have lived in Cookstown all their lives and for those who are relative newcomers.

On Wednesday April 15, 2009, former and current Cookstown oldtimers gathered at Cookstown United Church to hear an update on the progress being made on a book of anecdotes, memories, and photos about bygone days of Cookstown. Thefollowing over 80s group was in attendance:
